airberlin: codeshare agreement with American Airlines serves two new destinations in Canada

Press release logoairberlin and American Airlines have expanded their codeshare relationship to include two of American Airlines' gateways in Canada. Under this extended agreement, airberlin passengers can now enjoy four weekly connections from Montréal-Trudeau Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport via New York-JFK to the airlines' hubs in Berlin and Düsseldorf.

The connecting flights from Canada to Berlin-Tegel depart each Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Sunday at 1.50 pm from Toronto and at 12.30 am from Montréal arriving in Berlin at 7.15 am. Düsseldorf is now connected with Montréal and Toronto every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday and Sunday. From Berlin and Düsseldorf, passengers can easily connect to the dense German domestic network of airberlin or to the European metropolises Vienna and Zurich. Thus, German cities like Nuremberg, Cologne or Munich can also be reached from Toronto and Montréal using a shared flight number. The connecting flights from Montréal and Toronto are complementing the existing airberlin nonstop service from Vancouver to Düsseldorf that airberlin is offering passengers three times a week during the summer schedule.

The new codeshare flights from Canada to Germany can be booked effective immediately both for the summer schedule 2011 as well as for the winter schedule 2011/12. Tickets can be booked on the Internet (airberlin.com), in the service center (Tel.: 866-266-5588) or through travel agents.

airberlin has been co-operating with American Airlines since November 2010. In November 2011 airberlin passengers will also enjoy a newly refurbished business class cabin with lie-flat seats and video on demand. In addition passengers in economy class will enjoy an updated in-seat entertainment system. The two codeshare partners now offer a total of 35 destinations within the U.S, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the Bahamas with shared flight numbers.

airberlin is Germany's second largest airline. The company has a workforce of 9,200 employees. In 2010 alone, airberlin received over 10 awards for service and quality. The fleet comprises 170 aircraft with an average age of five years, making it one of the most modern fleets in Europe. The airline's state-of-the-art jets are highly fuel efficient, which contributes toward a long-term reduction in pollution emissions from aircraft. As one of the major European airlines, airberlin flies to 162 destinations in 40 countries. In 2011, over 35 million passengers were transported. On March 20th, 2012, airberlin becomes a full member of the global airline alliance oneworld®. airberlin operates codeshare flights with oneworld members American Airlines, British Airways, Finnair, Iberia, Royal Jordanian, S7 and Japan Airlines. In December 2011, airberlin entered into a strategic partnership with Etihad Airways.
